CLARK COUNTY COMMISSIONWell, at last, some hard scientific evidence has finally emerged that the Clark County Commission's balls are not, in fact, made of marshmallows wrapped in tiny Strawberry Shortcake dresses. That much became clear when on Aug. 8, trash hauler Republic Services agreed to finish cleaning up Sunrise Landfill, which burst in 1998. Republic not only agreed to finish cleaning and repairing the site, but it also agreed to pay $1 million in penalties. Whether this shows some true character on Republic's part (doubtful) or an acknowledgment that its sweetheart deal with the county might possibly be put in jeopardy for being such a chronically bitchy asshole lately (more likely) is anyone's guess, but here's a stanky little 777 hoisted to the county for not backing down. We'll toast the county again when it extracts from Republic an agreement to pay the full $36 million it'll cost to completely clean the site -- and not a penny less. If not? Well, there's plenty of room next door in the flaming landfill of 666!
