Casey Weldon’s Right/Left Behind You[Art]
No longer just another Las Vegas artist, the expatriated Casey Weldon (who moved to New York City last year) made a triumphant return this month with a cool show at Trifecta Gallery inside the Arts Factory. But time is running out, and Right/Left Behind You is just about ready to close! Why not spend a Thursday afternoon basking in the (mildly) surrealistic splendor of his latest work, which some critics have characterized as Norman “Rockwellian” with a “twist”? In “Lap Dog,” a young girl in her pajamas cradles the skeleton of her pet dog. In “Traditional American Headdresses, Series 2,” a woman balances a cheeseburger nestled atop her cranium. And in “The Grooming,” a pink-haired stylist prepares to shear Universal Monsters’ The Wolfman. Funny and beautifully rendered, Weldon’s images are worth more than a casual glance.
