Medical Mafia lawyer: “Waaa! No fair! I wanna do-over!”

Here’s a desperate hiccup of a development in the ongoing Medical Mafia case, a scheme alleged by the federal government in which a network of Nevada doctors and lawyers colluded to rip off clients in personal injury cases. Dr. Kabins Attorneys for Dr. Kabins, who was indicted in March, now want the case against their client dismissed [...]

Various Things & Stuff
    Well, that makes sense

Although we read U.S. Sen. Harry Reid’s book, The Good Fight, cover to cover when it first came out, we have to confess we haven’t yet gone out and got the paperback edition, with the new epilogue. But we did read a quote from that epilogue in today’s Las Vegas Sun. “We cannot and must not [...]

We Think
We don't know, as of this writing, whether the Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education plans to terminate UNLV President David Ashley's contract a year early, or allow him to serve the final year of the four-year pact. But we do know this: If the regents are planning on cutting Ashley loose, they should do it now.
Letters to the Editor
I was at the "Rally for Affordable Quality Healthcare" in Las Vegas June 27. I had confirmed (multiple e-mails) with the local host, David Heflich, over several days prior to the event. The agreement was that he was to meet me in front of 9311 W. Russell Road at 4 p.m. on June 27. He confirmed this as of June 26. I had made it clear to him that I use ParaTransit services, and would have to lock in and confirm specific pickup/drop-off locations/times by 5 p.m. Friday; once this had been confirmed, I am required to ride as scheduled or jeopardize my ability to use the service. Understand that this location is in the middle of a partially completed business/industrial park; I found that the "event" location, WellPoint Insurance, occupied the second floor of 9133 W. Russell Road, and was not identified by any signage outside or inside. The only sign on the front door was "Anthem" with the Blue Shield logo. I found out from the security guard (only other human in the building) that WellPoint did occupy the second floor.
Knappster
The doors are locked at the office of Quon, Bruce, and Christensen. Until last fall, this firm was one of the most successful in Las Vegas, specializing in sticking up for poor little homeowners who had to fight against big, evil developers. The lawyers made millions, especially telegenic Nancy Quon, who for the past few years has hosted a TV show on the city of Las Vegas channel, a program that offered advice to homeowners and homeowner associations.
Damned Pundit
It is tempting to dismiss Oscar Goodman's very public consideration of a possible gubernatorial candidacy as merely the idle ramblings of a full-on attention whore.
Savage Love
I'M a 25-year-old straight female. I've been dating my boyfriend for only a few months, but we fell in love fast. He is a caring person, and I want to make this last. However, he doesn't turn me on. It has nothing to do with looks -- he's GORGEOUS -- but rather with the fact I am submissive and like things rough (rape fantasies, being tied up, etc.). He is GGG and tries, but he is just too timid. The last guy I dated used to toss me around like a rag doll, and I miss being dominated.
¡Ask a Mexican!
Dear Mexican: Looking back recently on my distant youth in northwest Ohio, I came to the realization that the sweetest, most beautiful girl this gabacho ever went out with (indeed, in my entire senior class) was the pure-blooded daughter of Mexican immigrants. Am I under the sway of 1) simple nostalgia; 2) racist exoticism; 3) premature senility; 4) a deep sense of loss for what might have been? Please help, before I start reading Proust!
